Melatonin

Melatonin Zinc-Selenium and elderly people

Taking one or two 1-mg tablets at bedtime (10-12 PM) in the evening breaks the vicious circle of metabolic aging and resets nerve and hormone centres by resynchronizing hormonal rhythms.

In very old people I almost always recommend two tablets because of the benefits of zinc and selenium which, unlike melatonin, have quantitative effects, and a severe deficiency of which disrupts oxidative phosphorylation (energy production in cells).

A huge body of scientific publications and now irrefutable evidence leave no doubt that the evening intake of a melatonin which has the characteristics of producing a peak at night similar to that of a young body offers great benefits to elderly people, even in very old age, and that these benefits multiply and consolidate over the years. I have personally observed these benefits over some 20 years in hundreds of elderly people, and they are now living witnesses of what I say. The effects are clearly visible even in people in their nineties.

Taking one or two 1-mg tablets at bedtime (10-12 PM) in the evening breaks the vicious circle of metabolic aging and resets nerve and hormone centres by resynchronizing hormonal rhythms. These effects can be quantified by a simple check-up before starting the treatment and then every six months.

In very old people I almost always recommend two tablets because of the benefits of zinc and selenium which, unlike melatonin, have quantitative effects, and a severe deficiency of which disrupts oxidative phosphorylation (energy production in cells).

I have observed and can prove numerous lasting improvements, without EVER seeing any negative effect even in patients taking drugs. On the contrary, Melatonin-Zn-Se improves and amplifies the action of drugs without making them dangerous. Clearly, it is the duty of the doctor and patient to reduce or even eliminate certain medications when he or she observes a clear improvement in his or her condition.

I can sum up what I have observed in people over 70 years of age:

  • Return of sleep with REM phase (deep, with dreams), which in itself is an enormous relief because even when the hours of sleep are not many (3-4 with awakenings), an individual feels very rested and serene. Initially night awakenings but, over time, resumption of deep sleep. At this stage, it is necessary TO INSIST AND NEVER DISCONTINUE THE TREATMENT. These awakenings or insomnia are due to the physiological resetting of sleep that evidently had been altered for years.
  • Lowering of high blood sugar levels due to old age over weeks or months
  • Lowering of blood lipid levels, in particular total cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides. Rise in “healthy cholesterol" (HDL).
  • Normalisation of blood pressure (proven in many scientific studies).
  • Drastic reduction in oropharyngeal infections, colds, flu, and bronchitis.
  • In the case of vaccinations, melatonin Zn-Se improves the effects of vaccinations by enhancing immune function as a whole.
  • Disappearance of depression, mental fatigue, memory loss, and anxiety
  • Gradual improvement of gastrointestinal functions and evacuation.
  • Improvement of retinal vision and eye health in general, including the lens

There is no doubt that this treatment will bring great benefits in management, financial and medical terms and will help to bring great relief to hospitalised patients, whether self-sufficient or dependent, and to their caregivers!
