we forgot that we are animals rotating around the sun and that  day-night cyclicity has seasonal variations producing changes of daily illumination and temperature.

Living in a completely artificial and protected  environment, a  progressive alteration of our natural defences against all external and internal body agents takes place. We forgot that we are a mammalian species and that  “daily comfort” advantages may result into a violent or progressive alteration of our natural defences against all external physical or internal regulation of our natural, immunologic resistance.

In particular we forgot that we are animals rotating around the sun and that  day-night cyclicity has seasonal variations producing changes of daily illumination and temperature. This aspect is wildly underestimated, but  in fact it affects very profoundly our physiology and also mental functions. Symptoms of deep discomfort  and depression are very common in the changing seasons and in particular in autumn, when  we observe a decline  of daily light hours and of temperature. Our pineal gland perceives those changes and transfers the proper impulses to our neuroendocrine network. Discomfort, restlessness and irritability express such changes. They are also visible to a minor extend in spring. Those  evident seasonal problems may be the cause of severe psychic conditions. Clearly those problems are more visible in Northern European  Countries , while less present, for example, in the Mediterranean area.

In order to prevent and to correct those seasonal problems, I simply suggest to anticipate and possibly to prolong the hours for sleep and eventually to take a higher dosage of melatonin, in order to facilitate falling asleep. Of course it all depends on personal habits.
