Abstract

Multiple names of neurodegenerative diseases (NDD) do not mean at all multiple etiology and multiple cures. In fact NDD derive from a common and repetitive, almost monotonous multicausal origin. NDD are initiated invariably by a sudden or silent, insidious drop of immunological resistance of the T-cell-dependent or delayed type, produced by a large variety of  psychological-emotional and/or environmental "stressors" (social, family-domestic, alimentary, traumatic,  professional etc.) which allow a common virus such as adenoviruses, herpetic viruses etc. to attack organs and tissues, in this case a section of the central or peripheral  nervous system, and to generate a vicious circle leading to emergence of virus-generated tissue auto-antigens and consequently to formation of auto-antibodies. Use of corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs dramatically worsen and "eternize" the diseases with further immunosuppression.  Invariably, onset of NDD is anticipated by a clear-cut alteration of the hormonal cyclicity which closely controls immunity. My experience with patients in the last five years indicate a new approach to prevention and cure of NDD, based on a system totally divergent from present therapies. In fact "resetting the hormonal cyclicity clock" results in restoration of hormone-dependent anti-viral  immunity, arrest of disease progression  and at least partial recovery of neural functions, whatever the origin, anatomical location and course of the pathology.

Introduction

I was suspecting long ago that neither corticosteroids nor toxic immunosuppressive drugs  can bring  durable benefits  for the cure of neurodegenerative diseases (NDD)1. Having been involved for many years in the "art" of neuroimmunomodulation (NIM), namely in the studies linking the brain to the immune system2-6, it seemed obvious to me that hiding the symptoms of NDD would never reveal to us the primary cause of the diseases. For that reason I was induced to write the article below, which most obviously was totally neglected. Now I am able to exume it for a number of reasons: a) I discovered how to better modify and maintain the hormonal control of immunity, thanks to the "clock" which maintains their daily rhythmicity7-10. b) I became able to arrest the progress of auto-immune processes by taming back the immune system to its self-control and finally  c) I could observe the effects of my interventions in patients suffering of multiple sclerosis, Parkinson, Alzheimer and similar diseases with many names but a similar or even identical etiology. It only depends on the localization of the neural damage11. Obvioulsy, I do not mean those pathologies consequent to genetical, hereditary anomalies, neoplastic processes or  vascular disorders, resulting into neural damage.  However, myelopathies, neurodegenerative processes and vasculitis are often intrinsically identical, closely linked, and  promoted by the same causes: a self-promoting auto-immune process11.I am now happy to see that the article below is still valid.
